Thinking Like I Do ~ 1

PERSPECTIVES
~ 1 ~
by JJ Schwartz

Have you ever been asked the question “Is the glass half empty or half full?” This is a familiar question asked of people when one is questioning their outlook on a certain situation or the bigger picture of life as a whole. Being a person with a deep interest in the intricacies of human behavior, I have struggled with the difference in attitudes and perspectives that dominate us as individuals and/or societally. Egotistic negative behaviors run rampant through the course of life permeating our society resulting in a multitude of behaviors that tear down rather than build up our lives. This defeatist attitude is shaking the foundations of our existence. I am not a doctor with years of study in human behavior nor an alarmist, but rather a student of the course of life pursuing the possibility of encouraging new perspectives into our every day life.

I remember as a child, a book that I had seen many times at the library or if granted the opportunity to visit a home of the well-learned, I may have seen it noticeably placed where one would look with awe at its size. It was one of the biggest books I had ever seen. The book, “War and Peace” by the author Leo Tolstoy, seemed something of a behemoth compilation of words in print. Although I have never read the book and am quite certain I do not know the first thing that is written between those covers, I am wondering about the correlation between the size of that book and the chasm between the two obvious extremes.

I am simply using this book as an example of physical size when dealing with opposites. Is it possible for opposites to ever come together and form a balanced plane on which we can set our feet? Can we as individuals determine to reroute our thought patterns to achieve a more positive outlook? Or will this transference of energy cause us to topple under the unbalanced plane of what we have become accustomed to as the “norm”? Change usually brings about some defiance and may cause us to be uneasy. Stepping outside of our comfort zone can make one fearful and want to run back to the place where things were balanced and seemingly comfortable. How you look at it will determine the outcome.

I have created a platform on which I will jump headlong into another realm of my existence, the creative mind. An array of subjects enters my mind as I begin this and determining where to begin is one of my challenges. I do not claim to be an expert on any subject. My intention is to challenge your attitudes and perspectives on life. If we can begin to see the glass as half full we will experience an outpouring of the human spirit generating gratitude along with a multitude of perspectives and attitudes which will be a great remedy of efficacy.

Hang on, dear friend, as we teeter the totter.
