Thinking Like I Do ~ 3

PERSPECTIVES
~ 3 ~
by JJ Schwartz

I was skillfully slinking around the subject which I knew would bring about fear. Oh, I avoided this at all cost. I would chatter and dance about with folly as I carefully planned and achieved my escape. I had become a master of the techniques used to insubordinately defy the qualities and traits required to walk the good path of life and achieve success.

Unbridled energy filled my days with determination to understand what my purpose in life was. I tried the avenues that were taught to me with some success however I always felt lost and different. Dysfunction was my reality and I was a victim. Failure had strung traps about me and I continually succumbed to the world where my walk seemed to always go uphill.

One can take this story and use every justification and rationalization to continue to make excuses for the way we live today or we can choose to tell ourselves the truth. We are all born into a world where corruption, deceit and pain exist. But there is also the other side of the circle where truth, compassion and love exist. The truth will cause the traps to unleash its prey but it is up to us to run with this new found freedom.

We choose to determinably fight the good fight. This choice we make sometimes daily, sometimes moment by moment, will bring about a change in perspective that will give us new eyes to see the bounty and the strength to push ahead through the harvest. Every day brings opportunity to tip the scales, so-to-speak.

There are the every day tasks that we usually traverse through with mundane familiarity. There are the hills where we are challenged to excel and overcome. And we all love the valleys where we can rest beside the still waters. This roller coaster of life’s events needs to be handled with careful consideration of others and with openness to change. Do you tend to exploit your hardship to try and alter the outcome? Do you encounter the martyr and welcome him as your friend? Or do you look firmly in the face of the challenges and attempt to overcome? Facing these challenges and overcoming them with the least of chaos and pain is a task that takes us through uncomfortable and sometimes painful times. If you can move out of the arena of self-deception and denial and look for the truth, it is out there.

Step out of your dancing shoes, fit the hiking boots on and climb until you reach the pinnacle. As you stand at the pinnacle you can see both sides, the challenge on one side and the decent on the other. Each hike will become mastered with direction and become easier as you learn the right path up the mountain. Do not let yourself become encumbered by the perpetual attacks of self-doubt. Shed the baggage of negativism and expel the trap of old behavior. Listen to your heart, mentally map your steps and let your inner strength guide you up the mountain. Each hike will build character and help us to see the truth. The steps you have mastered will guide you past the worst of the crags and avalanches of loose rock.

As you descend to the valley, prepare yourself for the bounty. For your time of rest awaits you. Remember, your perspective of the mountain will illuminate your path. May the light of truth, compassion and love light your path.

I will meet you in the valley.
